VOLUNTEER

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Oregon Tradeswomen!

Oregon Tradeswomen is restructuring our Volunteer Program to strategically support our non-profit organization.

Diverse Trades Worker Volunteers

Diverse Trades Workers are the base of our volunteer program. We strive to be driven by the needs of diverse women and men of color in the industry. These volunteers help drive the direction of Oregon Tradeswomen and help shape our vision. Of course, all allies are welcome to volunteer as well. We also encourage all tradespeople to volunteer for opportunities under our community based volunteers.

Volunteers on any team should be prepared to make a minimum of a one year commitment. Teams meet for one hour month and will require a few additional hours throughout the month to the work of the team.

Teams:

  • Volunteer Steering Committee:
This committee is only available by direct recruitment. It is comprised of the Lead Volunteer from each of the other volunteer teams, an Oregon Tradeswomen staff person, and two co-chairs. This group provides cross communication for all volunteer teams and a regular channel for communication with Oregon Tradeswomen staff.
  • Outreach Team: If you are passionate about Oregon Tradeswomen and/or Constructing Hope this is the team for you! Volunteers on this team supportĀ Oregon Tradeswomen by organizing and attending outreach events throughout the year. They help recruit new volunteers, select weekend outreach events, and other events where Oregon Tradeswomen needs additional support. Community Based Volunteers are welcome on this team after an orientation and training shifts to assist them in providing information about the organization.
  • Tradeswomen Leadership Institute: This team plans the annual Tradeswomen Leadership Institute. They usually meet for a limited term between January and September each year to plan the event. They present at TLI, help finalize and determine logistics, plan the entertainment event, determine workshop topics and presenters, and much more!
  • Advocacy Team: This team is currently in development. It is open only to tradesworkers. The advocacy team works closely with Oregon Tradeswomen staff to determine advocacy and policy priorities. Volunteers receive advocacy training on an ongoing basis. Advocacy and Policy initiatives may be national, regional, or local.

Internships

Oregon Tradeswomen regularly uses interns to assist in the day-to-day work of the organization and on a project basis. We work closely with local universities and community colleges to recruit interns for our needs. Oregon Tradeswomen is unable to financially compensate interns at this time, however, we encourage all interns to obtain class credit for their time with us. Internship with Oregon Tradeswomen will always have a specific learning plan developed between the intern and their supervisor.

If you are interested in an internship with Oregon Tradeswomen, please send a cover letter and resume to Oregon Tradeswomen. In the cover letter, please indicate the type of work or project you would be interested in. We are open to taking on new interns, even if we do not have an opening, if a project or learning goal is in line with our mission and our current needs.

Community Based Volunteers

We always appreciate all kinds of support at our Annual Career Fair. You can sign up for individual shifts online.

There are also a number of annual events and intermittent opportunities to support our work. If you would like to be informed about future volunteer opportunities with Oregon Tradeswomen, please join our mailing list.
