Portland Habitat for Humanity is a locally
run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit,
ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works
in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing.
The houses are then sold to those in need at no profit and with no
interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate
donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Habitat for
Humanity is a great place to learn new building skills and give back to
the community. The Habitat for
Humanity International web site contains more information on
Habitat's history, mission, volunteer opportunities and contact
information for other Habitat affiliates around the world.

concerned about housing conditions in the Buckman neighborhood. Today,
REACH serves seven inner southeast neighborhoods and provides
affordable housing for close to 1000 people. As it has grown, REACH has
continually developed programs that address the specific needs of its
service area.
Hundreds of people volunteer for REACH each year. They
offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. For general
information on volunteering, contact Laurel at 503-231-0682 x134 or llyon@reachcdc.org,
