Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. has material that explains what
students can do while in school to prepare for a specific trade career.
The reproducible PDF documents below advocate for students to take math
and science classes, volunteer for building and construction projects,
and research training centers to look into apprenticeships.
Much of the information of how to get into the trades is
not easily accessible for many students, especially girls. Until 1972,
shop classes were mostly off-limits to girls (just as many home
economics classes were girls only). It was not until 1978 that
apprenticeships were required to let women in, and even today, women
make up only 2.8% of the trades workforce.
