The Work
The sign industry attracts many people with creative abilities.
Most signs are crafted by hand from a variety of materials.
Apprentices
learn the art of fabrication and installation by working directly with
craftsmen. Most sign companies use state-of-the-art equipment
such
as CNC cutting machines and computer driven plotters as well as
hydraulic
cranes and man lift equipment.
The Working Conditions
The work is often done at heights and outdoors in all types of
weather.
It can be physically strenuous and requires some lifting, climbing,
bending
and working on ladders. Hazards include shock, burns, falls and
falling
objects.
Wages
Open Shop
Apprentice: $11.74 per hour
Journey level: $19.57 per hour
