Piledriver
The Work
Piledrivers drive wood, steel and concrete pilings on docks, bridges
and ferry landings. They use chain saws, burning torches and
hand,
power and air tools. Piledrivers build foundations and forms for
concrete pilings and drill holes to sink pilings into the ground.
The Working Conditions
Piledrivers work indoors and outdoors. The work is physical and
involves climbing, kneeling, lifting and squatting. Locations
vary.
Some jobs involve working at heights, others involve working
underground
or on boats. Piledrivers must meet certain strength requirements,
be agile and have good hand-eye coordination.
Wages Union
Apprentices: $12.78 per hour
Journey level: $25.55 per hour
