The Trades and Apprenticeship Career (TAC) Class

Thinking about working in construction?  Oregon Tradeswomen offers a 7 week, women-only, PRE-Apprenticeship Class designed to help you prepare for a high skill, high wage career in construction with a focus on apprenticeship (the paid-on-the-job training to become a skilled trades worker).  Participants

• Gain 30 hours of hands-on experience working alongside our skilled female instructors on real jobsites—including the use of power tools!
• Learn basic trades math and measurement and explore topics like safety and construction culture in a classroom setting.
• Try out the tools of various trades through visits to apprenticeship training centers and real construction sites.
• Build muscle with 10 hours of strength training at the gym led by a female fitness trainer.

We’ll teach you how to prepare for work and when you graduate, we’ll help you with your job search and application to apprenticeship.  

Qualified Applicants must

• Have current driver’s license
• Have GED or HS Diploma
• Speak basic English
• Be in a stable living situation
• Have stable mental health
• Be physically fit enough to do physical labor all day
• Be able to pass a drug test

 
When does the class meet?

The class meets Tuesdays 9-5, Wednesdays 9-3:30, and Thursdays 9-5 for the first five weeks and then from 8-5 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the last two weeks.

 What is the cost of the program?

Thanks to industry and government support, our class is FREE, but in order to receive these thousands of dollars worth of free training we ask that you be motivated and ready to start your trades career.   We also hope that you will become a member or volunteer as a way of giving back to our program.

If you’re interested, call 503-335-8200 x21 to sign up for the next information session about the class.  You’ll learn about working in construction, apprenticeship, Oregon Tradeswomen, and all about our state-recognized program.  Coming to one of these sessions is also the first step to get into the class so call today to sign up.  We do them twice a month, about every other Thursday at 2:00pm at the Portland Community College Cascade Campus.
