Millwright
The Work
Millwrights install and assemble precision machines using sophisticated
measuring instruments. They install and align heavy industrial
machinery
such as conveyor systems, packaging systems, compressors, electric
generators
and turbines.
The Working Conditions
Millwrights work at hydroelectric dams, paper mills, nuclear power
generating stations, gas or coal-fired generation plants, smelters and
refineries. They use precise optical measuring and leveling
instruments.
Millwrights need good math skills, the ability to think problems
through,
manual dexterity, and the ability to work to very small tolerances (to
a thousandth of an inch). They may have to lift heavy
