Heat and Frost Insulator
and
Asbestos Worker
The Work
Workers in this trade apply insulation materials to pipes, tanks,
boilers,
ducts, refrigeration equipment and other surfaces requiring temperature
control. The work requires handling insulation materials made of
fiberglass, rubber, calcium silicate and urethane. Asbestos
workers
also remove asbestos-containing materials.
The Working Conditions
Insulators work in commercial buildings, refineries, ships, industrial
plants and private residences, in all kinds of indoor and outdoor
climates.
They use a variety of machinery and power tools. The work
environment
is dusty and workers must wear respirators and know about their proper
use and care. Due to the dust, this trade has high health
