Floorcoverer
The Work
Resilient floor and decorative coverings workers install, replace and
repair all types of carpets, plastic laminates and other decorative
coverings
in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, airplanes, ships,
swimming pools, highway medians, garage aprons, automobiles and
athletic
fields. This trade requires a well trained, versatile worker,
knowledgeable
about flooring products, able to prepare a pattern to absolute
tolerances
and to use scribes and dividers for precision work. Floorcoverers
use measuring, hammering, spreading and cutting and shearing tools as
well
as power tools, floor preparation and stretching tools, and lifting
equipment.
The Working Conditions
Floorcoverers work mostly indoors. The work environment is
frequently
dirty. Working conditions require considerable stooping,
kneeling,
reaching, stretching, and heavy lifting.
Wages
Union
Apprentices: $11.11 per hour
Journey level: $22.22 per hour
