2005 Women in Trades Career FairThe 2005 Women in Trades Career Fair reached 1,000 youth and adults! The event was powered by our generous industry sponsors, exhibitors, workshop presenters, and volunteers. Thank you for building the foundation for future tradeswomen!

photoOn Thursday, the Middle School Day, students attended an orientation to the trades and participated in two hands-on workshops. High School students on Friday had the same opportunities, plus being able to explore demonstrations and exhibits. With 1,130 students pre-registered, we served 704 youth over the course of the two school days. Over 125 educators attended from 30 high schools and 21 middle schools.

photoOn Saturday, 346 public day attendees also visited with 70 interactive exhibitors including apprenticeship training programs, government agencies that support nontraditional careers for women, and many employers.

photoThe hands-on workshops are one of the components that make the Fair incredibly valuable for fair attendees. Students and adult jobseekers interacted with fabulous tradeswomen rolemodels and learned how to use power tools, climbed a telephone pole, framed a small structure, even welded and soldered.

photoOverphoto 200 workshop presenters led interactive, fifty-minute workshops. The 21 different presenters included apprenticeship programs, employers, technical programs at community colleges, and Meek ProTech High School.

An enthusiastic group of 53 volunteers, dedicated 376 hours of their labor to the Fair. Friendly volunteers made participants feel welcome, as many attendees commented in their evaluations. Some volunteers gave as much as 7-8 hours of their time each day.

Many thanks to everyone!
