2016 Women in Trades Career Fair

The largest non-traditional career fair of its kind, Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. produces the interactive Women in Trades Career Fair to increase the overall number of women working in the trades and to help fill the imminent gap in the labor force that will be created with record-levels of upcoming retirements of skilled trades people.

Produced annually since 1993, this unique, industry sponsored and volunteer powered event offers dozens of hands-on activities designed to introduce women and girls to the possibility of a future career in the trades.

Wire a Light With NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center
Learn how electricity travels throughout the home. You will use tools and wire provided to assemble a working light and switch project that you will test to “See the Light!”   Learn about exciting careers in the electrical field.

Green Flooring with Floorcovering Apprenticeship Training Center
Watch demonstrations of new techniques and products that are environmentally responsible floor coverings, then try it out yourself! Learn about great careers in Floorcovering.

Substation Operations Careers – with PacifiCorp
You probably walk by them all the time.  Substations are everywhere – from city corners to remote locals.  But just what are they and what do they do?  Join Pacific Power for an informative and interactive session on substation operations. Learn about the role substations play in how electricity gets from the power plants to your house. Learn about the different types of careers that exist in substation operations.  From meter/relay techs, communications techs and substation electricians, there are lots of exciting opportunities to join the energy industry!  Join us for this hands on workshop.

You will learn about the careers of plumber and steamfitter while learning how to measure and cut PVC pipe, use fittings to make your own piece of art to take home!

Be a Sheet Metal Worker
You will learn about the career of a sheet metal worker while you learn to build a sheet metal flower pot!  Use hand tools to assemble the pieces and a hand break to bend the metal, just like a sheet metal worker would.

Construction Careers with Skanska
Learn about exciting careers in construction at Skanska while you use basic woodworking techniques to build a birdhouse with Skanska staff. This project is fun, straight-forward and you will be able to take your birdhouse home.

Ever wish that you could touch the sky? Roofers and Waterproofers do that every day. Come be a roofer for a day. Make your own green roof, find and patch a leak in a roof, and work with a Roofer installing modified roofing with a real torch.

Join a Highway or Bridge Maintenance Team! – With the Oregon Department of Transportation
Use a mini backhoe and see the Incident Response truck in action! Try programming the large message board, learn how a pot hole is filled, how a bridge is constructed and how legends are painted with ODOT!

Assemble concrete forms and hang doors while learning about careers in carpentry.
