Specialist
The Work
An exterior/interior specialist constructs and insulates interior and
exterior building surfaces. They use metal or wood to frame
buildings
or interiors and prepare the surfaces using drywall, sheeting or metal
lath. Exterior/interior specialists may construct ornamental
surfaces,
install acoustical suspended ceilings and computer floor rooms.
The Working Conditions
The apprentice must be able to work at heights on scaffolding using
power tools and power lifts. Work outdoors can be in all types of
weather. Heavy lifting (sheets of drywall weigh up to 120 pounds) is
required.
Much of the work involves overhead application.
Wages
Union
Apprentice: $12.70 per hour
Journey: $23.40 per hour
