Electrician - Inside
The Work
Construction and residential electricians work in all phases of the
electrical construction and service industry, ranging from
single-family
residences to state-of-the-art industrial plants. Electricians
install
conduits, wire lighting, switches and converters, and install and
maintain
complex electrical systems using computerization and high
technology.
Electricians repair and maintain all kinds of electrical
installations.
The low voltage/sound and communication apprenticeship includes work in
processes in fiber optics, telephone systems, sound and fire alarm
systems,
LAN and structured wiring systems.
The Working Conditions
This work is done in the full range of environmental conditions:
outside in the dirt, cold, sun, rain and snow; inside in climate-
controlled
modern offices; and in state-of-the-art clean rooms in hospitals and
manufacturing
plants. It can require considerable standing, bending and
reaching
and/or working in cramped spaces or at great heights.
Wages
Union
Apprentices: $12.40 per hour
Journey level: $31.00 per hour
Open Shop
Apprentice: $10.44 per hour
Journey level: $26.10 per hour
